Primary Science Process Skills: What are they? Why do we need to know their definitions?
Processes describe steps taken so that something happen. PSLE Science will test your understanding of scientific processes and their definitions.

How do definition questions look like?
Here are some examples from past PSLE papers.
State what deforestation is. [1 mark] (PSLE 2022)
State what digestion is. (PSLE 2022)
State what is temperature. (PSLE 2021)
Definition questions usually look like “State what (process) is/means”. They have been appearing more frequently in PSLE papers and are not difficult to score.

Classification: Putting things into different groups based on their characteristics
Fungi and bacteria
Decomposition: Decomposers are generally fungi or bacteria. Decomposition is a process whereby dead matter are broken down into simpler substances over time, into the soil. Plants can use the simpler substances as nutrients to grow well.

Light
Reflection: The process when a ray of light bounces off a surface and changes its direction
Forms and uses of energy:
Energy conversion: The change(s) in the form of energy.
For example, light energy (from the Sun) is converted to chemical potential energy (stored as food in the plant) during photosynthesis.
